White House to allocate more funds for farmers suffering from tariffs
White House to allocate more funds for farmers suffering from tariffs
US President Donald Trump announced a second round of trade aid for farmers burned by the retaliatory tariffs. He authorized Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to address this issue. The funds will be allocated from an aid package of $12 billion. The American president believes that this assistance will help with further development of the domestic market. Farmers started getting the first tranche of financial assistance of $6 billion in September 2018. The largest part of the direct trade relief is devoted to manufacturers of corn, cotton, dairy, pork, soybeans, wheat, and grain sorghum.
Many Republican senators criticized the decision to allocate funds to farmers affected by the tariffs. According to the American supporters of free trade, these measures contradict the US economy. The opponents of financial aid are sure that the implementation of Trump's plan may make the American economy similar to that of the USSR.
