Wonder of biofuel Part 2

In the previous talk, we discussed bioenergy and a practice of using biofuel for cars of new generation. It arouses great interest because a source of renewable energy could be any litter, wastes from paper production, various vegetable oil such as rape seed, peanut, palm, sunflower and olive pomace oil, and vegetable fats.

Importantly, biofuel has obvious advantages. It is nontoxic and virtually lacks sulfur and carcinogenic benzene. The flip side is a minor decrease in engine power. However, all negatives are outweighed by a lot of technical merits such as higher lubricating function extending an engine lifespan, much less harmful fumes (including CO, CO2, SO2 and tiny particles), easy cleaning of injectors, fuel pumps, and fuel supply ducts.

Interestingly, Greenpeace does not share the joy at the new environmentally friendly fuel. Experts at Greenpeace insist that biofuel is much more unsafe than hydrocarbons. Earlier, Greenpeace carried out a research exploring biofuel into the depth. It reads that biofuel produced from some plants causes the environment more harm than fossil fuel. Greenpeace is targeted at biodiesel fuel, produced from vegetable fats, which are processed by methanol or ethanol. However, Greenpeace specialists have nothing against ethanol. It is ethyl alcohol extracted from sugar cane or corn. Spirits are processed and then added to gasoline or filled into a fuel tank without any mixture. Greenpeace's negative stance toward biodiesel based on vegetable fats rests on the statement that hundreds hectares of the woods are cut down around the globe to provide room for growing raw materials. Deforestation increases carbon dioxide concentration, thus contributing to global warming.

Nevertheless, environmentalists and biofuel developers are pleased with the rapid advance in this field. For instance, a biochemistry and biotechnology laboratory of Russia's Academy of Science is actively involved into experiments on growing one-cell algae. It is also a biofuel raw material, which can replace conventional farm plants and do not require large farm land. The project is supervised by Vladimir Volodyn. In November 2015, Mathieu Flamini, an Arsenal midfielder, founded GF Biochemicals. It is the first company in the world to discover a way to mass-produce Levulinic Acid, which is a synthetic substitute for oil in all its forms. The Arsenal ace is certain his pioneering company could revolutionize the energy industry as Levulinic Acid can displace hydrocarbon fuel in the global market.

Completing our talk on renewable sources of energy, in particular biodiesel fuel, a lot of scientists think bioenergy is to have bright future. To sum up, this potential trading instrument is worthy of careful consideration.
