Foreign exchange market is open 24 hours. When in some countries the session is closed, in others it is a new trading day. Trading sessions follow each other during the day. This allows traders to work on the market in the most convenient time. Besides, behavior of currencies greatly differs from one session to another, that is why it is vital to know trading hours of different markets.
There are four trading sessions on the financial market: Asian, European, North American, and Pacific. Each of them has its own peculiarities. For example, the Asian session is notable for high trade volumes of such currency pairs as USD/JPY, EUR/JPY, EUR/USD, and AUD/USD. At the beginning of the London trading session the market experiences the increase in volatility of the most traded currency pairs. Trading activity weakens to the afternoon, and in the evening market participants continue making deals. It is the time for the US session: the US banks open and the European dealers return form lunch. Traders should also remember that after the European session closes, volatility may rise again especially before the weekends.
Below we provide the schedule of trading sessions, which is an integral part of any successful trading strategy.
