Ivory Coast to slash budget spending by 10 pct

A sharp fall in cocoa prices has forced Ivory Coast to cut its 2017 budget spending by 10 percent, President Alassane Ouattara said on Thursday.

The cuts exclude the salaries of civil servants, who went on strike this year over back pay and pension reforms. The West African nation's ambitious investment budget, howecer, will be slashed by 10 percent, or approximately 200 billion CFA francs ($320 million).
