Caterpillar taps former U.S. attorney general for help in federal probe

Former U.S. attorney William Barr has been hired by heavy-machinery maker Caterpillar Inc. to help with an investigation into tax issues surrounding its Swiss subsidiary Caterpillar SARL.

Barr served us U.S. attorney general under President George H. W. Bush from 1991 to 1993.

Caterpillar said Barr will help in the review of "matters relating to the search warrants execute at Caterpillar facilities."

The Illinois offices of the company were searched by federal authorities on March 2.
