India's CPI Inflation Rises To 10.56% In December

India's annual inflation as per the consumer price index increased in December, preliminary data from the Central Statistics Office showed Monday.

The consumer price index increased 10.56 percent on an annual basis in December, faster than the 9.9 percent gain seen in November.

Food and beverages prices advanced 13.04 percent annually, while fuel and electricity prices moved up 8.23 percent. Clothing, bedding and footwear prices were higher by 10.74 percent compared to December 2011.

The overall inflation rate for rural areas rose to 10.74 percent in December from 9.97 percent in the previous month, while the figure for urban areas increased to 10.42 percent from 9.69 percent, data showed.
