Even those who are in charge claim that they do not expect profit from cards issuing abroad.

“I consider it to be a promotional project rather than a business one. Our target is to report that the project is developing in various countries. The card exists de facto and that is great. In the places where there are offices and offshoots of our banks there will be possibility to issue such cards,” Sergei Katasonov, the first deputy on budget and taxes committee of State Duma, said.

The most important in this situation is to report that the project is within the budget and there is de facto Russian Mir, meaning community, somewhere abroad. Meanwhile, the card is hardly popular in Russia. The project that pompously started as Russia’s response to Visa and MasterCard now stands in row with such attempts as YotaPhone, the Yo-mobil, and other unsuccessful copies. Moreover, at the moment only Russian banks may participate in the Russian National Payment Card System. Thus, it is rather difficult to work in the international arena. That is why amendments, which let non-Russian banks to be participants of the system, have been introduced to the Russian legislation.
