US Senate rejects Trump’s proposal to lift sanctions against Russia

Russia’s friend Trump is happy to forget old grudges, but the US Senate is against it. Ordinary Russians can hardly understand that the President cannot issue decrees at his discretion and the Senate can easily say no to him.

One might think that this is an utter impudence. In Russia no one would be surprised, if all objectors were removed from their offices and exiled to Alaska. In a county, where no one ever casts a doubt on any president’s decision, it is difficult to imagine that somewhere the senate can easily reject the president’s initiative without fear of being persecuted. That is what happened with sanctions against Russia. Donald Trump promised to work this issue out, but the Senate did not agree with him. Moreover, this confrontation between the Senate and the President brought together the Democrats and the Republicans. Chuck Schumer, a representative of the Democratic Party, and John McCain, one of reputable members of the Democratic Party, drafted a bill that can limit the presidential powers in this matter.

In case the bill is passed, the US President will not be able unilaterally lift or weaken economic constraints imposed against Russia due to its policy toward Ukraine. Moreover, McCain believes that it is necessary to toughen the anti-Russian sanctions, since, in his opinion, Vladimir Putin is a war criminal.
