US watchdog clears ChemChina’s $43 billion takeover of Swiss Syngenta

On Monday, August 22, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, or CFIUS, approved `China National Chemical Corp.’s planned $43 billion takeover of Swiss seed giant Syngenta AG.
Representatives of both companies said that the deal is still subject to other regulatory reviews from other countries. In February, ChemChina offered to buy Switzerland-based Syngenta for $465 a share, $43 billion overall.
Syngenta is a leading global agricultural business with more than 28,000 employees worldwide. ChemChina is the largest Chinese state-owned company that specializes in production of agrochemicals, industrial equipment, and chemical materials.
