Some people have been expecting the United States to collapse for over fifty years. They believe that the US is heading towards an economic and social abyss, pointing out an enormous external debt and tangled political relations. However, Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has quite a contrary opinion.

In his official speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin named the US “probably the only superpower” today and expressed his hopes for cooperation. Besides, the Russian President underlined that the contemporary world needs such a strong leader, which the US is, without doubts. And Russia fully acknowledges it, he added. The only thing that arouses questions is Washington’s will to interfere in Moscow’s inner affairs, which stays in the way of further cooperation development between the countries, according to Putin. The Russian leader also noted that Russian reciprocal sanctions imposed against the US had a zero effect; it means that the world’s ‘’only superpower” barely noticed Russian bans.

Now over-patriotic nationals will have to live with the thought that they have not caught up with the US yet and that they still have to work and develop very hard to acquire the status of a superpower.
