Turkey to send refugees back to Europe unless granted visa-free travel

Previously, Turkey was ready to fulfill any requirement of the European Union to obtain visa-free regime; but now the country lays down conditions of its own. Turkish authorities strived to gain a visa-free EU travel, promising to carry out any responsibility to guarantee a positive decision on the issue. However, the situation has changed completely.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan refused to amend the country's legislation concerning terrorism, which was demanded by the European Commission. Besides, the head of the country threatens to let all the welcomed refugees through to Europe. The situation is likely to go out of control. Both the EU and Turkey took some responsibilities but postpone their fulfillment.

It is difficult to say who will be the first to make concessions. The European Commission still expects Turkey to discharge all the accepted responsibilities in order to get a visa-free travel, said the EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos. The politician said he was “optimistic” that Ankara would “give a final push” to the necessary reforms by the end of June. The Turkish President is optimistic too being sure that intimidation will help them avoid amendments to the anti-terror laws. Turkey was caught supporting terrorism several times, which included weapon shipments and purchases of stolen pieces of art. Besides, the country’s authorities provided some terrorists with political asylum.
