According to the report published by Zecurion, in 11 months of 2015 financial losses from hacker attacks totaled 27 billion dollars all over the world. Computer geniuses who fell to the dark side of the Force succeed in their criminal activity. Their earnings keep pace with profits of the world’s leading companies. The research agency reported on a significant rise in the number of leakage incidents that hit the level of 817 this year with an average loss of 33.22 million dollars in each particular case against 25.29 million in the previous year. Importantly, the total number counts only officially reported episodes. “I think the final loss will top 30 billion dollars. Preliminary estimates make it clear that the number of corporative data leakage and financial losses will continue to increase. Sophistication of methods used by cyber criminals contributes to the growth as well as companies’ and their employees’ negligence in issues related to information security,” head of Zecurion Vladimir Ulyanov made a comment. However, ordinary users have nothing to worry about.

Ivan Novikov, a co-founder of Wallarm, said: “Today nobody takes care of individual users. They are mostly hacked for access to cloud services. This data can be easily sold as it is in high demand on the black market.” The expert noted rising hacking risks in Russia on the back of the current economic crisis. “Decreasing earnings, large-scale lay-offs, and general economic instability in the labor market made a significant impact on employees’ sentiment and behavior. Fearing for their future, employees began to copy available pieces of confidential information,” the report of Zecurion reads.
