Spain’s unemployment rises by 0.21% in November

The number of people in Spain registered as unemployed rose by 0.21% to 3.47 million people, Labour Ministry's report showed.


The number of people paying in to the social security system in Spain decreased by 12,773 to 18.42 million people from October. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number of people registered as unemployed fell by 22,744 in November from the previous month.


The number of people out of work in the services sector increased by 23,048, but fell in agriculture, manufacturing and construction sectors.


According to the European Commission, the eurozone economy is set to expand at the fastest pace in a decade and to slightly slow down in 2018 and 2019.


The jobless rate in the euro area will come in at 9.1%, the lowest level since 2009.


Over next two years, the country's unemployment rate is expected to 8.5% in 2018 and to 7.9% in 2019.


The lowest jobless rates in September 2017 have been registered in September in Czech Republic (2.7%) and Germany (3.6%) and Malta (4.1%). The highest unemployment rates were seen in Greece (21.0% in July 2017) and Spain (16.7%).
