Take-Two To Shut Down Roll7 And Intercept Games

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., the renowned video game publisher responsible for hits such as "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead Redemption," has declared closure on two of its subsidiaries, Intercept Games and Roll7. This forms a part of its disclosed intention to let go of 5% of its workforce by the close of 2024.

The decision to shutdown the aforementioned studios, along with Private Division, is to streamline operations and focus more on business-critical strategies. This information has been gleaned from documentation as reviewed by Bloomberg.

Intercept Games, stationed in Seattle, Washington, is recognized for developing the cult favourite "Kerbal Space Program," a unique game that provides players with the experience of constructing and launching their self-made spacecraft. In compliance with the WARN Act, Take-Two is obliged to produce at least a 60-day notice before implementing any layoffs in Seattle. Therefore, the process to lay off the 70 employees at this location will commence on June 28, as affirmed by Washington's Employment Security Department.

Roll7, a London-headquartered studio known for "Ollie Ollie World" and "Rollerdrome," fell under the ownership of Private Division in 2021. Albeit the shutting down of Private Division, the development of "Kerbal Space Program 2" won't be hindered as the company has pledged continued support for the game under a new structure.

The layoffs will extend to other Private Division employees too, and Take-Two is extending severance packages to those affected. This shift coincides with Take-Two's ongoing process of buying Gearbox, the brains behind "Borderlands," for an approximate $460 million. This acquisition is projected to be finalized in the upcoming months.
