Tokyo Inflation Climbs 1.8% On Year In April

Consumer prices in Japan's Tokyo region saw an annual increase of 1.8 percent in April, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications this past Friday. This growth came in below the estimated annual gain of 2.6 percent, which would have matched the rate from March. Furthermore, the core Consumer Price Index (CPI) — which excludes the fluctuating prices of food — also grew by 1.6 percent annually. This too fell short of the projected increase of 2.2 percent and slower than the 2.4 percent increase seen in the preceding month.
