According to Syrian President Bashar Assad, the West's hostility to a number of countries, such as Syria, Russia and Iran, is due to their sovereign status. He is sure that Europe does not want to perceive sovereign states as full partners. The leaders of Western countries would like to see their proteges, who act in the interests of the EU, and not patriots in the key state posts.

Supporting his words, Assad draws attention to a sharp change of opinion in the Western media in connection with the flared up conflict in Ukraine. At that time, Russian President Vladimir Putin became the dictator, enemy number 1, for the West, despite being elected as a result of democratic elections recognized in Europe.

Regarding the statements of the West about the desirability of his resignation, Assad said that the president should leave the post with the consent of the people. If the head of state decides to resign, then solely by the will of his people, and not by the decision of the United States, the UN Security Council, the Geneva Conference or the Geneva Communique.

It should be recalled that the rebels are for the resignation of Bashar Assad, appealing to the fact that he is not able to end the civil war that began in the spring of 2011. Such sentiments are not surprising, given that the civil war in Syria killed 230,000 people, and the number of refugees reached 11.5 million.

In his statement, the President of Syria stressed that his country is open for cooperation with other countries, especially those that do not exert pressure on the head of state and have a serious intention to fight terrorism. In relation to Russia and Iran, Assad is very friendly and, in his speech, emphasized mutual cooperation in this period of time.
