FX.co ★ Ukraine vs corruption: which one wins

Some people cannot stop believing in a miracle. Among these people are the Ukrainian jury of the Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Kiev a few days ago. They were under the illusion that corruption in their country has disappeared somehow. But the reality is more cruel.

Yuri Rybchinsky, the chairperson of the Ukrainian judges, was outraged by the scale of corruption at this international event. One would say that there is nothing surprising about it, especially in this country. According to Mr Rybchinsky’s estimates, the money which was spent for this Eurovision would be enough for organizing three similar contests. The event budget was really enormous – 30 million of euros. This is a pretty large sum for the devastated Ukrainian economy. To compare, Sweden went to the expense of 12 million of euros while Estonia contrived to spend just 9 million of euros. At the same time, these countries could afford it.

Yuri Rybchinsky thinks that the Ukrainian public prosecution service turns a blind eye to the obvious crimes. The organizers of the event committed corruption practices blatantly. Still, they got away with it. Hopefully, justice will prevail and corruption will really disappear in Ukraine.
