Donald Trump had a lot of election promises. Some of them he fulfills immediately, the others are forgotten. However, a desire to build a high wall along the US-Mexico border is still expressed.

During the Presidential election the wall construction was one of the biggest pre-election promises made by the Republican candidate. Trump declared grandly that the project would cost American taxpayers upwards of $12 billion. However, his colleagues from the Republican Party, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell say it will be worth $15 billion. Later on, it became clear that all of them were wrong. According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the price of the project is at least $21.6 billion and its realization will take about three years. Experts of the Department point out that the wall erection will be divided into three phases, which length will be more than 2,000 km. At the moment more than 1,000 km of border line were strengthened. The first phase is to build a fence along 42 km near San Diego, California; El Paso, Texas; and in Texas's Rio Grande Valley. The second phase of construction would cover 242 km of border in and around the Rio Grande Valley; Laredo, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; El Paso, Texas and Big Bend, Texas. The third phase would cover an unspecified 1,728 km, essentially sealing off the entire US-Mexico border.
