European Union: Be visitor, not guest

The European Union has decided to change radically its attitude to migrants. Instead of the Open Door policy, the heads of the European states intend to reduce the migrant flow into Europe. Interestingly, it is not just a broad statement, but a transition to practice.

The percent of so-called “humanitarian repatriation” of those leaving to Africa has been affirmed. The EU authorities have allocated the money for upgrading the border checkpoints in Libya to bar African refugees. Moreover, additional measures are being introduced to restrain those who are willing to get illegally to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea.

“We are decisive to take additional measures to reduce considerably migration flows through the Central Mediterranean and destroy the ‘business model’ of migrant smugglers and at the same time to keep watch over the Mediterranean,” the Malta Declaration states.

On the whole, new European Union policy consists of two major trends. The first one is to tighten the migration rules. The second one is a simplification of illegal immigrants deportation. However, Europe is distinguished by tolerance and it leaves the choice for the immigrants.

An unprecedented campaign under the slogan ‘Take money and go home!’ was launched in Germany. Every migrant, if he or she feels sad and lonely in that developed country, may receive 1,200 euros. In order to get it, one has to apply for the sum and state the desire to return to a homeland until the decision on the shelter is taken. Meanwhile, guests have two attempts, those who were rejected, the government will pay 800 euros if they do not file an appeal. What a sudden twist in terms of the migration policy!
