FX.co ★ Hormel Foods Recalls Select Planters Peanuts, Mixed Nuts

Hormel Foods Sales, LLC, a subsidiary of the leading food processing company, Hormel Foods Corp., has issued a recall for a small number of two nut products from the brand Planters, over concerns about potential contamination with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, as per an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The products affected by the recall include the 4-ounce pack of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts, with a UPC code of 2900002097 and a "Best if Used By" date of April 11, 2025, and the 8.75-ounce pack of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, with a UPC code of 2900001621 and a "Best if Used By" date of April 5, 2026.

These potentially contaminated items were manufactured in one of Hormel Foods' facilities in April, with the recall affecting two retailers across five states. The products were delivered to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria type that can cause severe, and occasionally fatal, infections in vulnerable individuals like young children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. While healthy people may experience only temporary symptoms, exposure to Listeria can result in miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women. However, as of now, there have been no reported cases of illness linked to this recall.

Consumers who have purchased these items are advised to either dispose of the product or return it to the store of purchase for a refund or exchange.

In related incidents earlier this year, Jen's Breakfast Burritos, LLC, a company based in Auburn, Washington, in March, recalled about 144 pounds of ready-to-eat breakfast burrito items due to concerns about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. In February, Hormel Foods had to recall approximately 945 pounds of ready-to-eat spiced deli ham products because they were incorrectly labeled and failed to declare the presence of milk, a known allergen.
